We have installed a limited range of software to enable you to carry out common tasks on your refurbished computer.
What's installed
- Browsing: Mozilla Firefox comes as standard but you can choose alternative browsers like Google Chrome from the Ubuntu Software Centre.
- Office applications: Create documents, spreadsheets and presentations in Ubuntu with LibreOffice.
- Mail: With Thunderbird you can access your emails, address book and calendar.
- Music: Banshee enables you to play, create and edit MP3s.
- Photo and video: Import, organise and edit your pictures with Shotwell. Play your videos with Movie Player or edit them with Pitivi.
- Messenging: Pidgin is a multi-format internet messenging utility, an alternative to MSN messenger.
Ubuntu restricted extras package
This is a software package that allows the user to install essential software which is not already included due to legal or copyright reasons. See Ubuntu licensing site for more information.
Installing this package will pull in support for MP3 playback and decoding, support for various other audio formats (gstreamer plugins), Microsoft fonts, Java runtime environment, Flash plugin, LAME (to create compressed audio files), and DVD playback.
